How do you get people through a hard workout? Sometimes, inspiration falls from the sky:
"We're going for a ride outside in the country. Hey look, there's a medium-mean dog chasing us. Run for it! Hit zone 3, the slightly painful zone, one minute, go!"
Hmm, not quite there.
"The guys I ride with consider it gentlemanly to ride between the ladies and the pursuing dogs. Special guy bonus sprint at the end of this hard minute. Three.... two.... one.... go, guys!"
Naah. The ladies in the room don't get our dose of 100% pure anaerobic satisfaction that way.
"Okay, let's make this a little more realistic. At the beginning of our minute, the ladies in the room will sprint for ten seconds, then settle into zone three for the remainder of the minute, where the guys have been all along. At the end of the minute, the guys will sprint for the last ten seconds. Go!"
