Disturbing

I am having a study-feverishly weekend. (Final on Monday at 4:30 PM. Practical retake is coming, and I really want to do PERFECTLY on it. Plus, we start the shoulder on Monday. Paper to be posted today (finished yesterday). Pharmacology quiz that I could take anytime. Et cetera. Lots to do.)

In any case, I needed a treat, so I stopped for frozen yogurt. Behind the counter is a teenager-- oversized TCBY polo shirt, long blonde hair, acne, and expertly done eye makeup at 3:30 PM.

I got yogurt (chocolate with hot fudge sauce, mmmmmm, treat, mmmmm!) and sat down to eat it. The next customers to come in included an older lady (60?) on oxygen, with a rolling walker and a man and a woman her age, both very careful of her. (She's not well. Her friends are getting her out of the house for a treat, I surmise.)

A fairly long line accumulated at the counter. Then another teenager appeared, this one with her oversize polo shirt tucked up to reveal a cellphone attached to her jeans. She was blond, shorter and smaller than the first one. She zipped out from behind the counter-- and an unhappy, worried look was plainly visible on her face. She ignored the long line of people waiting for yogurt, and began wiping the already-clean tables, working at speed, occasionally glancing up at the door as if expecting someone to come through it.

I definitely got the impression that she was waiting for an unwelcome and probably abusive guy to come through the door. The other one didn't look worried or protective, though. Hmm. I thought about bringing my books in and camping out in the TCBY, which was fairly quiet. Then the worried one ducked behind the counter and began helping people. That lowered my perception of the threat, I'm not quite sure why.

Comments? What would you have done?

Um, perhaps she was worried about boss arriving, finding she's been screwing around in the back when she should have been out front?
