Plan: Ride the coast from Carmel to Morro Bay

8 AM: Discover that seatpost bolt on bike frame is cracked

10 AM fix it (Cost $5)

1 PM Wait for E, S's obliging sag wagon driving girlfriend, because we didn't tell her exactly where in Big Sur to meet us

2 PM Connect with E, start off again

4 PM: Flat tire. Back tire proves to be worn through completely in a couple spots. Boot the tire, change the tube, promise never to buy $19 tires from Performance Bikes again, and continue.

4:30, slightly north of Lucia, California: Load bikes into car, return to River Inn on Highway 1, eat dinner on lovely deck behind main restaurant. Yum.

Total mileage 54. The view and the ride were beautiful, and well worth the hassle.

About home

I used to wonder why people lived in places where the winters are hard, or the snow is deep. Now, I think I know: It is 'home' for them. No matter where else you go, no place is as good as 'home'.... wherever 'home' is for you.

tomorrow: Return to Cupertino, connect with people I've been trying to see. (Sue, Linda, and Brian, I mean you.)
