Our PT Skills I professor told us about her day at the hospital yesterday. (This particular professor, Dr. J, taught the class that had me in a wheelchair last module. She has a masters in PT and a doctorate in something else, and she's a geriatric clinical specialist. She's also very funny.)

The story was about her day at the hospital. Somewhere in the middle of the story... between the lady who howled every time you touched her and the little old man who tried to use a portable urinal but proceeded to splatter urine everywhere, then needed a trip to the toilet RIGHT NOW and didn't quite make it... the professor looked up and deadpanned, "and I'm so glad I have a PhD."

I can see from here that there are going to be moments like that, where I say, "And I spent how many years getting an education so I could do this?"

On the other hand... someone finally explained to me that this is an applied education program. That would explain why we learn how to use crutches, lofstrand crutches, wheelchairs, walkers, braces, tilt tables, ice, heat, ultrasound, et cetera.... and why the tests don't spend a lot of time testing your knowledge, but instead have many questions designed to get you to apply the information you have learned.
