St. Ansgar, Iowa

ninevirtuesSt. Ansgar was a breakfast stop town. I stopped for a while, because it was beautiful, got a cup of coffee, and stayed to chat.
I met a little old lady sitting and watching the traffic go by (and, incidentally, watching her husband serve cinnamon buns to passersby). She tried to interest me in buying the hardware store which is currently for sale (thanks, but no thanks). She raised seven children and has fourteen great grandchildren; it wasn't work to her, because she loved it; they are productive citizens; I could almost see her verbally and mentally building her safe, clean, good world in St. Ansgar, right before my eyes. Yeah, there are bad things in her universe, but all is right in her immediate world.
That was a good conversation (even if I have zero interest in buying a hardware store in St. Ansgar). Down the road, though, I felt the coffee grab me by the adrenal glands... and then got the first allergy attack I've had all year.
Ahah. Now that I think about it, my seasonal allergies started right about the time I started drinking coffee. I haven't had one all year, though, despite drinking way too much of the stuff (all one kind of it-- Starbucks Sumatran). Conclusion: Some forms of coffee make my body unhappy enough, and reactive enough, that allergies result.
