"Listen, cat. Let me explain the kitty facts of life to you. You.. are a carnivore. Carnivores eat meat. This.... is a carrot. Carrots are not meat. They are vegetables. So, you are officially not interested in that baby carrot. Leave it alone, please."

Throughout all of this carefully-thought-out explanation, the cat has one paw and her entire head wedged firmly in the personal-sized tupperware container with a single baby carrot in it, trying to extract the carrot.

You never know with cats

I had a cat that liked chili beans with Fritos. She was also known to occasionally indulge in a kosher dill pickle.

How cute!

One of my cats used to do anything necessary to get to the rind of a piece of cantaloupe. She'd jump into the sink to get it. That one fruit somehow turned her into a snarling beast, keeping the other cats away from her precious, in a way that tunafish or anything more like "cat food" never did.

Another one of ours adores garbanzo beans. Go figure!

Anyway, what fun would it be to have a cat with no quirks? {grin}

As for carrots, I guess I'd figure that it's fiber, it's vitamins, and it's probably not going to hurt her. Of course, if she then proceeds to leave shredded carrot mush all over the carpet, then it's an issue. But a different issue.

I wonder whether she still goes for the baby carrots if you simply put one in her food dish? Perhaps it's the excitement of trying to get it out of the container that she really goes for....

I'd like to come down and say hi at some point, BTW...

I had a friend whose cat loved cantaloupe so much that she'd chew through the rind of a whole melon just left sitting on the table... perhaps cantaloupe bears an accidental resemblance to some cat pheromone we poor humans just can't understand?

Oh, and I forgot about pea soup. My cat-before-the-gray-cat (who I don't think you ever met) used to love my plain old ordinary homemade pea soup -- would just lap it up like cat food.

Come to think of it, that did have carrots in it. Hmmm...

Well, hmm.

I think it's interesting because it's in the clear plastic container and she can fish for it. I also think it's interesting because it (the carrot) rolls nicely. Combination of clear plastic and moving object that tastes sort-of good to her... kitty kryptonite.

I think.

My cat loves olives. Maybe it's the salt, but when I've been eating olives I have to hide my fingers from him or he'll gnaw them off.

Ah, so Fydo isn't the only one. He licked my Anderson's bowl clean once.
