Again with the baby carrots.
Mar. 14th, 2009 10:34 am"Listen, cat. Let me explain the kitty facts of life to you. You.. are a carnivore. Carnivores eat meat. This.... is a carrot. Carrots are not meat. They are vegetables. So, you are officially not interested in that baby carrot. Leave it alone, please."
Throughout all of this carefully-thought-out explanation, the cat has one paw and her entire head wedged firmly in the personal-sized tupperware container with a single baby carrot in it, trying to extract the carrot.
You never know with cats

Date: 2009-03-14 05:57 pm (UTC)One of my cats used to do anything necessary to get to the rind of a piece of cantaloupe. She'd jump into the sink to get it. That one fruit somehow turned her into a snarling beast, keeping the other cats away from her precious, in a way that tunafish or anything more like "cat food" never did.
Another one of ours adores garbanzo beans. Go figure!

Date: 2009-03-14 05:59 pm (UTC)As for carrots, I guess I'd figure that it's fiber, it's vitamins, and it's probably not going to hurt her. Of course, if she then proceeds to leave shredded carrot mush all over the carpet, then it's an issue. But a different issue.
I wonder whether she still goes for the baby carrots if you simply put one in her food dish? Perhaps it's the excitement of trying to get it out of the container that she really goes for....
I'd like to come down and say hi at some point, BTW...

Date: 2009-03-14 06:04 pm (UTC)Come to think of it, that did have carrots in it. Hmmm...
Well, hmm.
Date: 2009-03-14 06:05 pm (UTC)I think it's interesting because it's in the clear plastic container and she can fish for it. I also think it's interesting because it (the carrot) rolls nicely. Combination of clear plastic and moving object that tastes sort-of good to her... kitty kryptonite.
I think.
